Description PGP9.5/UCH-L1 is a member of a gene family whose products hydrolyze small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate the ubiquitin monomer. Protein gene product (PGP9.5) is a neuron specific protein, structurally and immunologically distinct from neuron specific enolase. The protein which has a molecular weight of 27kD was first identified by high resolution two dimensional PAGE. Standard immunohistochemical techniques have demonstrated the presence of PGP9.5 in neurons and nerve fibres at all levels of the central and peripheral nervous system, in many neuroendocrine cells, in segments of the renal tubules, in spermatogonia and Leydig cells of the testis, in ova and in some cells of both the pregnant and non-pregnant corpus luteum. PGP9.5 gene encodes two opposing enzymatic activities that affect alpha-synuclein degradation and Parkinson's disease susceptibility. Recombinant PGP9.5 shows a band at 36kD on SDS-PAGE commassie blue stained gel. Dimers and Aggregates: ≤ 1% as determined by coomassie blue SDS-PAGE gel analysis. Endotoxin: ≤ 0.1ng/ug (IEU/ug) of human PGP-9.5. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
