K5 polysaccharide is composed of repeating disaccharide units of GlcAb1–4GlcNAca1-4. The polymer backbone is identical to the biosynthetic precursor of heparan sulfate and heparin. This polymer has been chemically-modified to yield N-sulfated, O- sulfated and N/O-sulfated derivatives.
