| Description | Gangliosides are acidic glycosphingolipids that form lipid rafts in the outer leaflet of the cell plasma membrane, especially in neuronal cells in the central nervous system. They participate in cellular proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, signal transduction, cell-to-cell interactions, tumorigenesis and metastasis. The accumulation of gangliosides has been linked to several diseases. Removing the sialic acid from monosialoganglioside GM1 inhibits its ability to bind cholera toxin. Asialo-ganglioside GM1 does not block the binding of cholera toxin to cellular GM1. CAS Number: 71012-19-6 Source: Semisynthetic Sequence: GgOse4Cer; beta-Gal-(1-3)-beta-GalNAc-(1-4)-beta-Gal-(1-4)-beta-Glc-(1-1)-Cer Solubility: Chloroform:methanol (2:1) Molecular Weight: ~1255.6 (calculated on sphingosine C18:1 and stearic acid) Purity: ≥98% (TLC) Identity: Determined by 1H-NMR, MS and HPTLC. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile buffer. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
