Description Sendai virus is an RNA paramyxovirus parainfluenza type 1 virus that is primarily a disease of young mice; however, it can and does affect several species of small rodents. Sendai virus is immunosuppressive and can have an immediate, as well as a long term effect, on the rodent's immune system. The virus causes high morbidity and mortality rates when combined with bacterial pathogens such as mycoplasma pulmonis and CAR (cilia associated respiratory) bacillus. Source: Parainfluenza Type I virus, Strain Sendai, from Allantoic fluid of 10 day old embryonated chicken eggs. Inactivation: Inactivated with 0.05% Thimerosal Application: Suitable for use in serological studies of parainfluenza virus, immunogen for antibody production. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
