Description Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) is a ubiquitous infectious agent of man. Although asymptomatic infections are probably common, HSV infections may be accompanied by vesicular eruptions of the skin or mucous membranes. Both HSV Types 1 and 2 can cause severe clinical diseases including keratoconjunctivitis, meningitis, encephalitis, eczema herpeticum and generalized infection. Serologic tests for the detection of antibodies are useful in determining the immune status. The Herpes Simplex antigen preparations are partially purified to reduce host cell components. The antigens are inactivated through this purification process and are tested for infectivity prior to release. The Herpes Simplex Type 2 antigen yields high sensitivity and low background in the ELISA assay. Herpes Simplex Type 2 Antigen, H2033-42B, is prepared by glycine extraction of Vero cells infected with Herpes Simplex Type 2, strain G. This antigen has very little reactivity with antibodies against Type 1 Herpes Simplex Virus. Source: Vero cells Inactivation: Purification process Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and freeze at -70°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months.
