Description Influenza is an acute infection of the respiratory tract caused by the Influenza virus, of which there are several different types. Influenza B is only known to infect humans and seals. Influenza infection in humans causes chills, fever, pharyngitis, muscle pain, headaches, coughing and weakness. The virus is transmitted through the air by coughs or sneezes or through saliva, nasal secretions, faeces and blood. Infection may occur through direct contact with infected bodily fluid or contaminated surfaces. Influenza B viruses mutate slower than Influenza A, but fast enough that lasting immunity is not possible. The slower mutation rate and limited host range makes Influenza B less like to cause pandemics than Influenza A. Source: MDCK cells Strain: B/Hong Kong 5/72 Concentration: ~2mg/ml (dye binding assay) HA Titer: 36,000HA Units/ml (Hemagglutination Endpoint Assay) Inactivation: Gamma radiation inactivation. Inactivated sample is inoculated onto MDCK cells alongside positive and negative controls and serially passaged after three days incubation. Result: No growth detected. Applications: Suitable for used in both IgG and IgM detection in assays which include EIA with polystyrene and latex solid phases.. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and freeze at -70°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Aliquots are stable for at least 6 months.
