Description Usutu virus NS1 protein 1 (Non-Structural 1) has been manufactured in response to the unmet need for highly purified, concentrated protein for use in serological based diagnostic assays. Usutu virus NS1 protein is engineered in human cells using state-of-the-art expression and purification techniques. Usutu virus is an emerging disease that is spread by Culex mosquitoes to wild birds (Blackbird pictured above) or bats which act as amplifying hosts, and to humans which act as accidental or dead-end hosts. The virus was first described in 1959 in South Africa, and has spread to Europe in or before 1996. In 2009 the first case of neuroinvasive Usutu virus infection was described in a 60-year old woman in Italy. More neuroinvasive infections caused by Usutu virus were described in a Croatian study in 2013. There is no vaccine or specific treatment available for Usutu virus. Usutu virus NS1 protein has been produced to the same standards as other NS1 proteins, and is presented as a highly purified liquid protein. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to Vienna 2001 strain of Usutu Virus -NS1, fused to His-Tag at C-terminal, expressed in 293 human cell. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
