Description RSV is a paramxyoviridae; pleomorphic, 150 –300 nm diameter; enveloped virions; single stranded linear RNA; non-segmented negative sense genome; lack hemagglutinin and neuraminidase activities. Most common cause of common cold-like respiratory tract illness in infants and young children; causes colds in adults, febrile bronchitis in infants and older children, pneumonia in infants, and bronchiolitis in very young babies; reinfection common and results in upper respiratory infection. Source: RSV, strain Long, from Vero cells Applications: Suitable for use in for both IgG and IgM detection in assays which include EIA with polystyrene and latex solid phases. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Inactivation: RSV antigen is inactivated using gamma radiation. This procedure is effective primarily by damaging viral genetic material. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
