Description The alpha5 beta1 integrin mediates cell adhesion and migration on fibronectin, a glycoprotein critical for normal vertebrate embryonic development. Indirect evidence reported to date suggests that this receptor also functions in the deposition of fibronectin matrices. Integrin alpha5/beta1 purified from smooth muscle under nondenaturing conditions by affinity chromatography on fibronectin-sepharose. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot, Electrophoresis and Functional Studies. In Functional Studies, liposomes containing Integrin alpha5/beta1 adhere to surfaces coated with fibronectin in an RGD-dependent fashion. Other applications have not been tested. Storage and Stability: Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
