Description Keratins are a class of fibrous proteins or scleroproteins important both as structural proteins and as keys to the study of protein conformation. The family represents the principal constituent of epidermis, hair, nails, horny tissues, and the organic matrix of tooth enamel. Two major conformational groups have been characterized, alpha-keratin, whose peptide backbone forms an alpha-helix, and beta-keratin, whose backbone forms a zig-zag or pleated sheet structure. Recombinant human Cytokeratin 18 is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain having a molecular mass of 53.5kD. Protein Content: Protein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods: 1. UV spectroscopy at 280nm. 2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a calibrated solution of cytokeratin 8 as a Reference Standard. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O, 0.1% BSA or HSA.. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C.For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
