Description Human galectin-1 (Gal-1) is a member of the galectin family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins, which exhibits both intracellular and extracellular functions, and is differentially expressed by a wide range of normal and neoplastic tissues. Galectin-1 has been implicated in several major cellular functions including proliferation, motility, hematopoietic cell differentiation, apoptosis promotion and immunoregulatory effects. The expression of Gal-1 by neuronal and glial cells correlates with neuroregeneration following injury, and studies have shown the importance of Gal-1 to primary sensory neurons and synaptic connections in the spinal cord, during embryonic development. Source: Recombinant corresponding to human Galectin-1expressed in E.coli. Molecular Weight: ~14.5kD (134aa residues) Activity: Determined by its ability to chemoattract human blood monocytes. Chemotactic activity was observed at a concentration of 2.5ug/ml with a peak response obtained at 250ug/ml. Endotoxin: ≤1 EU/ug Applications: Suitable for use in Functional Assays. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with 500ul sterile dH2O. Aliquot and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
