Description Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a member of the galectin family of beta-galactoside-binding proteins, which is involved in both intracellular and extracellular functions and exhibits anti-apoptotic properties. Gal-3 is implicated in many biological processes, including cell differentiation, growth, adhesion, angiogenesis and inflammation, and is expressed in a wide range of neoplasms. Gal-3 acts as a regulator of tumor metastasis, and several studies have shown a correlation between levels of Gal-3 and tumor progression in liver, thyroid, colon, gastric and breast carcinomas, making Gal-3 an emerging cancer marker. Source: Recombinant corresponding to human Galectin-3 expressed in E.coli. Molecular Weight: ~26.0kD (250aa residues) Activity: Determined by its ability to chemoattract human blood monocytes. Chemotactic activity was observed at a concentration of 2.5ug/ml with a peak response obtained at 250ug/ml. Endotoxin: ≤1 EU/ug Applications: Suitable for use in Functional Assays. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with 500ul sterile dH2O. Aliquot and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
