Description Pure Helix pomatia lectin (HPA) from edible snail, labeled with FITC. Lectins are derived from the extracts of plants, animals, viruses and microorganisms and are known to agglutinate red blood cells. These agglutinins can select cell types according to blood group activities utilizing sugar-binding mechanisms. Lectins form precipitates with glycoconjugates and are useful for identifying or separating oligosaccharides with identical sugar compositions such as galactose, mannose or glucose. Carbohydrate Specificity: N-Acetylgalactosamine Inhibitory Carbohydrate: alpha N-Acetylgalactosamine > beta N-Acetylglucosamine FITC/Protein Ratio (OD 280): 2.38 Activity: Less than 0.5ug/ml will agglutinate A1 or A2 cells. Neuraminidase treated B and O cells react as strongly as type A cells. Storage and Stability: tore product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.  Caution: FITC conjugates are sensitive to light. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
