| Description | HMGCL, also known as hydroxymethylglutaryl-CoA lyase, is a mitochondrial matrix protein that belongs to the HMG-CoA lyase family. It exists as a homodimer and participates in leucine catabolism and ketogenesis, the hepatic synthesis of ketone bodies that, during fasting, provide a major source of energy for heart, brain and kidney. More specifically, it catalyzes the final step of these processes, the cleavage of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA to acetoacetic acid and acetyl-CoA. Source: Recombinant protein corresponding to aa28-325 of human HMGCL, fused to His-tag at N-terminal expressed in E. coli. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. | ||
