Description Neurotrophin-4 (NT-4/NT-5) is a potent neurotrophic factor which supports the growth and survivability of nerve and/or glial cells. NT-4 is a neurotrophic factor structurally related to beta-NGF, BDNF and NT-3. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. NT-4 is expressed in the prostate, thymus, placenta and skeletal muscle. NT-4 can signal through the LNGFR and trkB receptors and promotes the survival of peripheral sensory sympathetic neurons. The active form of human NT-4 is a dimer, formed by two identical 130 amino acid subunits, which is held together by strong hydrophobic interactions. Recombinant human NT-4 is a noncovalently linked homodimer, of two 14.0kD polypeptide monomers (260 total amino acid residues). Endotoxin: < 0.1ng/ug (1EU/ug) Responding Cells (partial list): Nerve, glial cells Biological Activity: The ED50 was determined by the dose-dependent induction of choline acetyl transferase activity in rat basal forebrain primary septal cell cultures was found in the range of 20-50ng/ml Concentration Range for most in vitro applications: 0.5-100ng/ml Reconstitution: Reconsitute with water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0mg/ml. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile water and store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Country of Origin: USA
