Description Alpha1-microglobulin is a plasma protein synthesized in the liver. It consists of a single polypeptide chain which is synthesized from the same mRNA as bikunin, the light-chain of inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor. Bikunin is cleaved before the secretion of alpha1-Microglobulin. Alpha1-Microglobulin is strongly associated with a yellow-brown chromophore of unknown structure and about half the plasma alpha1-Microglobulin is convalently linked to monomeric IgA. The plasma concentration range is 20-100mg/L. The function is not known. It has been implicated in immunoregulation and through its translation as a diprotein with bikunin it is associated with proteolysis inhibition. Elevated levels are associated with renal disorders and abnormalities of the renal tubules, elevated plasma IgA. Sub-normal levels are associated with HIV-infection, some liver dysfunctions and decreased plasma IgA Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile PBS. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
